How to configure 2FA on your AMS account

After you have registered as a provider or seeker and had your account approved (usually within 48 hours), you will receive a welcome email prompting you to set a password and configure Two-factor Authentication (2FA) on your account.

N.B. Please wait until you have received the welcome email before attempting to log in. The link in the welcome email is single-use and time-sensitive so please create your password and configure 2FA promptly after you receive it.

Password Requirements

Your password must be at least 12 characters and contain at least one uppercase letter, lowercase letter, number and symbol/special character. No character may be repeated more than 3 times.

You are now ready to configure Two-factor Authentication (2FA).

Configure Two-factor Authentication (2FA)

Step 1

When you reach this screen, you will need to open or download the ‘Google Authenticator’ app from the App Store or Google Play (preferably onto your smartphone).

N.B. You can use other authenticator apps but Google Authenticator is free and very easy to use. If you already have the app, go to Step 3.

Step 2

Search for and download the Google Authenticator app from the App Store (shown here) or Google Play…

Step 3

Open your authenticator app.

The video below (which uses Facebook and Instagram as examples for setting up 2FA) will walk you through the process or you can continue to follow our written step-by-step guide…

If this is your first time using it, tap on the ‘Get Started’ button. You will have the option to either log in with your Google account or use the app without logging in.

N.B. If you have a Google account, we recommend you log in as Google Authenticator will save your 2FA data and sync it to your Google account for easy retrieval should you change phone/device.

Next, click the Plus (+) button – bottom right…

Step 4

You can either select ‘Scan a QR code’ OR ‘Enter a setup key’ (only attempt one or the other). Scan a QR code is easier so that’s the method we recommend. If you cannot scan the QR code, use the manual method – ‘Enter a setup key’.

2FA options

Scan a QR code (recommended)
Scan the QR code shown on the AMS screen using your phone’s camera. A ‘SZC Accommodation Management System’ account will be automatically created. Go to Step 5.

AMS QR code

Enter a setup key (manual method)
In the authenticator app, type ‘SZC Accommodation’ in the ‘Account name’ box and enter the 2FA secret code from the AMS screen in the ‘Your key’ box.

2FA secret key

Keep ‘Type of key’ set to ‘Time based’ and click the Add button.

Step 5

Now simply enter the 6-digit code generated by the authenticator app into the box on the AMS screen and click the ‘Validate Code’ button.

Validate 2FA code

Entering the correct code will log you into your AMS dashboard. If the code is incorrect, it may have timed out so please check the authenticator app and try again using the latest 6-digit code generated.

Next Steps

For future logins, simply open your authenticator app and enter the relevant 6-digit code when prompted.
